Ann

Ann Absolom

Ann came to believe in the Lord Jesus whilst living in Japan and, as she was discipled, found a growing desire to know God through His Word and an increasing passion to see the body of Christ encouraged, equipped and enabled to proclaim the truth of the Gospel message. For the past 20 years she has been teaching and inspiring others to live on purpose for the glory of God. Ann is married to Alan and they have two children.

Rosie and Brian

Brian & Rosie Short

Brian and Rosie have been married for over 55 years and walking with the Lord Jesus since their youth. Their heart is in serving the Lord through small fellowship groups, focussing on discipleship and the upholding of Biblical Truth above all else.

They have been part of the Desiring Truth family since it’s inception.

What we do

First and foremost, Desiring Truth seeks to follow the Lord’s commission:

Matthew 28:18-20   ‘..go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…..teaching them to observe all that I commanded you….’

To that end we seek to bring people into a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their understanding of His grace. Our ministry can be divided into three sections each overlapping with the others.

Discipleship

Courses

Weekly courses // Monthly day conferences

Weekend residential retreats // Fellowship Groups

One on one discipleship

Prayer

Prayer

Monthly Prayer Meetings // One on one prayer support

Monthly prayer letter (with weekly reminder)

Ad hoc prayer for one another

Evangelism

Evangelism

We take part in fortnightly street evangelism

We hold outreach events at our DT Centre and various venues locally.

In all of the above, we endeavour to foster the understanding that growth in our relationship with the Lord through His Word (discipleship) and regular, meaningful communication with our heavenly Father (prayer) will lead to the sharing of the good news of Jesus (evangelism) and are the means by and through which the Lord has blessed us. We believe that in this way the Lord, by His Spirit is producing in us a vibrant, powerful, faithful and maturing life in and with the Lord Jesus Christ. TO HIM BE THE GLORY

“For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? As for His outstretched hand, who can turn it back?”
— Isaiah 14:27.

What we believe

The one true God who lives eternally in three persons - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.

The one true God who lives eternally in three persons - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world. The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God - fully trustworthy for faith and conduct. The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement. The incarnation of God's eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ - born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human yet without sin.

The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price for sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God. The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; His ascension to the Father, and His reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world. The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ. The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.

The Church, the body of Christ, both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers - given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love. The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost and establish a new heaven and a new earth

The Gospel

I would love to tell you about the most wonderful gift ever given to man - worth more than gold or any riches. It is the greatest Good News that you will ever hear! The Bible tells us in John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God loves YOU - and the longing of His heart is that YOU love Him. Why? BECAUSE GOD IS LOVE! and He hates the fact that you are separated from Him by sin. Some people consider ‘sin’ as things we do that are ‘against the Law’ - some think of murder and adultery as "major" sins compared with lying, swearing, greed or gossip. The truth is that ‘sin’ simply means "to miss the mark." The mark is the standard established by God and evidenced by Jesus.
